The Department of Pediatrics at Alpert Medical School of Brown University, in affiliation with Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital, announces an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished Pediatric Infectious Diseases physician at the Associate Professor or Professor level to serve as Director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.  

The successful physician leadership candidate will have a national reputation and demonstrated scholarly achievements, including academic accomplishments in clinical care, education and research. The candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and provide executive leadership. Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, and qualify for a full time academic appointment at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Research Scholar or Teaching Scholar Track. 

The Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division will provide leadership, oversight, and direction to the faculty, staff, and fellows in all mission areas. These areas include out-patient and in-patient clinical practice, educational programs, research, and service. The Division Director is expected to have an emphasis on clinical and/or basic research. The candidate should work in a highly collaborative manner with the division and Department leadership to improve, develop, and implement high-quality clinical care, pediatric infectious diseases training and scholarship. The candidate will serve as the Clinical Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, overseeing the outpatient clinical programs, and the Fellowship Director responsible for the pediatric infectious disease training program. Major educational programs include the fellowship, pediatric residency, and participation in the Infectious Disease course for second year medical students. The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases includes 3 full-time faculty and 2 part-time faculty. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities  

1. Directs and manages the administrative, clinical, teaching, research, and service activities of the Division.

2. Mentors faculty and fellows to be successful educators, investigators and clinicians.

3. Teaches students, residents and fellows at Hasbro Children's Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and the Alpert Medical School.

4. Clinical responsibilities include attending on the inpatient consult service as well as in the outpatient infectious diseases referral clinic.

5. Academic endeavors are encouraged including participation in clinical and/or basic research. It is expected that at least 20% of the incumbent’s time will be protected time devoted to scholarly activities with the potential for additional research time based on funding.

6. The Division Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases reports directly to the Chair of Pediatrics.

7. Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Rhode Island (or must be licensed in another jurisdiction and be eligible for licensure in Rhode Island).  


Clinical activities take place at the 87 bed Hasbro Children's Hospital (HCH) and at the 80 bed NICU within the adjacent Women’s and Infants’ Hospital, both primary pediatric teaching facilities for The Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The pediatric clinical programs range from common pediatric care to tertiary/quaternary care, and include a large refugee clinic, a global health program and partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health’s public health innovation center.
