Contact Dermatitis and

Occupational Dermatology

Fellowship Program

Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School

Enjoy thinking creatively and innovatively? Hope to cure patients of their chronic dermatitis without long-term immunosuppressives?

If these challenges appeal to you I strongly recommend the Contact Dermatitis and Occupational Dermatology Clinical Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). As the most recent graduate of this program, the past year as a fellow was tremendously beneficial for my career in dermatology.

The Contact Dermatitis and Occupational Dermatology Clinical Fellowship Director, Dr. Pamela Scheinman, is dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and developing the critical thinking skills necessary for clinical practice. Each week her clinic includes unique and interesting cases in a dynamic clinical environment.

Additionally, there is excellent support for both clinical and basic science research. I helped design an original, prospective, clinical study investigating the utility of patch testing patients with a higher concentration of nickel than is routinely tested in North America.

During my year as a fellow, I also worked with dermatologists, allergists, immunologists, and other faculty members at Harvard Medical School who are leaders in their fields. I learned how to correlate positive patch test reactions with patients’ presenting complaints, formulated extensive treatment plans for allergen avoidance, and saw firsthand the significant impact that allergen avoidance can have on the lives of our patients.

After developing my expertise during the fellowship, I have joined the dermatology faculty at BWH and am an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Currently, I direct my own busy patch test clinic, teach students, residents, and fellows, and contribute to various clinical and research teams.

Whether you plan to ultimately pursue private practice or academics, the skills you acquire during this Fellowship will be extremely valuable to your future dermatology career. I encourage you to apply for the BWH Contact Dermatitis and Occupational Dermatology Clinical Fellowship position and be a part of our innovative team. I look forward to meeting you soon.
