The Kinesiology Department at SUNY Cortland invites applications for a full-time, 10-month Athletic Trainer (8/1 - 5/31) starting 8/1/2019. Athletic trainers provide consultation/advice/referrals for SUNY Cortland intercollegiate athletes. The trainer’s primary role is to work with medical staff in providing prevention, treatment, care, and rehabilitation for intercollegiate athletes. The athletic trainer will teach up to 6 credit hours per semester in the CAATE – accredited athletic training program and/or Kinesiology Department; provide clinical instruction and hands-on field experience supervision.  Additionally, the athletic trainer will serve as preceptor and provide academic advisement to Kinesiology students.

A successful athletic trainer will have a commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice; passion for exercise and sport with well-developed understanding of the complexities of the clinical fields; desire to contribute to a culture of inclusivity and diversity through teaching, scholarship or service; ability to provide leadership in teaching, research, scholarship or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment; desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds; a commitment to improving access to higher education for all students regardless of background and to educating students to become global citizens.

 

Qualifications: a Master's degree by time of appointment in related field; BOC certification; experience teaching and athletic training service; New York State license as a Certified Athletic Trainer, or eligibility are required.  Preference may be given to candidates with college or university level teaching and/or college or university athletic training service experience.
