Position description

The Departments of Surgery and Medicine are inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff (Clinical) faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to serve as Director and clinical leader for the Multiorgan Transplant and Donation Program (MOTDP) at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The MUHC is a leading McGill-affiliated bilingual academic health network providing tertiary and quaternary adult and pediatric care to the population of Montreal and Quebec. The McGill transplant program has a proud history, performing the first successful kidney transplant in the Commonwealth over 60 years ago. The McGill MOTDP has evolved into a large, multidisciplinary and multi-organ program, the largest one of its kind in Quebec, providing kidney, liver, cardiac, pancreas and islet transplantation as well as coordinating organ donation activities. We are unique in Quebec for providing care to both pediatric and adult patients on one site, and are the only designated site for islet transplantation (one of only 2 in Canada). We perform about half of the kidney transplants in the province, more than three-quarters of the pancreas transplants, and a third of the liver transplants. Over 30 faculty members from multiple departments contribute to the program and benefit from state-of-the art MUHC clinical facilities and research infrastructure at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre.

Job Duties

The MOTPD Director is a surgeon or physician with outstanding clinical and academic expertise in transplantation who will be responsible for developing priorities and directions for the MOTDP and for translating these plans into reality. The MOTDP Director will work in co-management with a nursing program manager and will have shared responsibility for clinical targets and budgets. They will work collaboratively with the relevant Department and Division Heads to ensure high-quality clinical care for local, regional and supra-regional populations. They will nurture clinical and academic excellence, and will grow and represent the program in local, provincial, national and global forums to foster clinical, research, education and private sector collaborations.

The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (teaching, and involvement in academic and administrative committees), provide excellent clinical care, teaching and supervision to residents and medical students, and to pursue scholarly activities in advancing care, training and/or research in the area of Multiorgan Transplantation.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
