  • Job Type

The Division of Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is recruiting an Adult Congenital Cardiologist to join a well-established Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Program. The practice will include the care of patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings.

The desired candidate must be board eligible or board certified in Adult Congenital Cardiology. The position is open rank and applications from both newly trained and experienced ACHD physicians are sought. Rank and tenure status will be determined based on candidate’s prior experience and academic qualifications. The primary appointment of the position is in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Disease with a secondary appointment in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Collaboration between the 2 divisions is outstanding.

The Alabama Adult Congenital Heart Program is the only ACHD Program in the state. Located at UAB and Children’s of Alabama it provides comprehensive ACHD care, including advanced imaging, cardiac catheterization, ACHD surgery, and management of arrhythmia, heart failure, and pulmonary hypertension. Currently, we have two ACHD Outreach locations and an ACHD Telemedicine Program that allow patients to be seen even closer to home. We have also established the region’s only Comprehensive Pregnancy & Heart Program. Last year, more than 1600 patient visits, 70 ACHD surgeries, and 40 ACHD catheterizations were performed and there is potential for significantly more growth.

Metropolitan Birmingham provides a excellent quality of life resulting in high faculty job satisfaction and low turnover. Most of the cardiologists are originally from out of state and have remained at UAB because of strong career possibilities and the quality of life they find here. Commutes are short, the schools are excellent, and the restaurant scene has garnered national attention. Importantly, spouses and families have also developed strong connections to the community. Weekend trips to one of the nearby lakes are easy and the Gulf Coast and Blue Ridge Mountains are just a short drive away.
