Pediatric Critical Care Medical Director Opportunity in San Francisco Bay Area

Stanford Children’s Health/Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, in collaboration with California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, is seeking a board certified (BC) pediatric intensivist to be Medical Director of the 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at CPMC. This recruitment represents an excellent opportunity, rarely available in the Bay Area, for an experienced and motivated intensivist to lead an established PICU in collaboration with Stanford Children’s Health.  The position includes provision of 24/7 in-house coverage (the Medical Director and three additional intensivists) for the PICU, in-house emergencies, sedation services as needed, triage and support for the Emergency Department at CPMC.  Additional opportunities include program growth and development for telemedicine, pediatric transport services, and access to the academic resources associated with the Department of Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto.  The position offers competitive benefits and salary, and it will provide 20% protected administrative time.

The ideal applicant will have at least 5-7 years clinical ICU experience, demonstrate exemplary leadership skills, and have familiarity or expertise in program development and quality/performance improvement. Additional qualifications include board certification in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care and eligibility for medical licensure in California.  The successful candidate will be appointed to a faculty position in the Clinician Educator (CE) line at the Clinical Associate or Clinical Professor level in the Department of Pediatrics at the Stanford University School of Medicine.  Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  The major criterion for appointment in the CE line is demonstrated excellence in clinical care and clinical teaching.

CPMC is the largest medical center of the Northern California-based Sutter Health system and is the result of the merger of several of the longest established hospitals in San Francisco. A new and expanded medical center will be opening in 2019. Current pediatric services are offered in more than 25 pediatric specialty areas, including cardiac, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, gastroenterology, and general surgery, among others. Together with the Pediatric Emergency Department, inpatient units, and outpatient clinics, Pediatrics at CPMC cares for thousands of children each year.

CPMC is located in the city of San Francisco which justly ranks as one of the greatest cities in the world. The “City by the Bay” truly has it all. The city is known for its natural beauty, trend-defining cuisines, world-renowned symphony, ballet, theater, and opera, professional sports teams, outstanding colleges and universities, and exceptional opportunities for varied outdoor adventures.

Stanford University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty.
