 Chief, Division of Critical Care Anesthesiology (CCA)  


We are actively seeking a Chief of CCA. The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM)/University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) are nationally-respected leaders in the care of critically-ill patients. Nine anesthesiologists provide dedicated 24/7/365 coverage in the following ICUs, including: surgical; neurosciences; cardiac surgical; and trauma/neurotrauma. CCA faculty also perform bedside ultrasound and supervise CRRT. All anesthesiology residents and two ACGME-approved fellows rotate through CCA. Faculty members are responsible for their education, utilizing a curriculum that includes the SCCM’s Fundamentals of Critical Care Support and multidisciplinary simulation training in a MOCA-certified center.

The Department has established faculty development/mentoring programs. Anesthesia and integrated hospital-wide information management systems provide large data sets for outcomes research. Departmental research focuses on collaborative clinical/translational investigation in: clinical informatics; neuronal bioenergetics; neuroinflammation; sepsis-related mechanisms of cardiac/pulmonary dysfunction; ICU-delirium, and problems in coagulation.

The successful candidate is a superb clinician/educator with greater than five years of experience.

In addition, this individual must:

  • Qualified for appointment in the UMSOM as an Associate- or Full- Professor (Tenure or Non-Tenure Track);

  • Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with added qualifications in Critical Care or Neurocritical Care;
  • Actively involved in clinical/translational research;
  •  Nationally recognized for their contributions to Critical Care Medicine and 
  • Eligible for an unrestricted Maryland medical license and Federal/Maryland controlled substances licenses
