The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) is seeking an established maternal-fetal medicine academic physician leader to serve as the Associate Chair, for Obstetric Services and Director of Patient Safety and Care Improvement. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences has 47 primary faculty members, including 27 MDs, 10 PhDs, and 10 midlevel providers. The Labor and Delivery Unit does 1,850 deliveries per year, 85 percent of which are classified as high risk. The annual budget for the Department is approximately $30 million with annual research funding of over $3 million.

This senior position includes oversight of all obstetric services delivered at University of Maryland Medical Center, including Antepartum and Postpartum floors, and our new state-of-the art Labor and Delivery Unit, to be commissioned June 2018. The Associate Chair and Director will provide strong leadership, assist in recruiting high caliber talent into the organization, and promote quality of care. S/he will support the provision of a strong customer service orientation toward patients, affiliated physicians, and referring community physicians. The Associate Chair and Director will be an active participant in delivery of personalized perinatal medicine, an expert obstetrician. S/he will have extensive authority and responsibility in Patient Safety and Risk Mitigation (PSRM), and will chair the Department’s PSRM initiative. As with all our faculty, the successful candidate will value teaching at all levels and actively participate in teaching residents, medical students, and fellows in our nationally-renowned Maternal -Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program. Funded clinical research is not mandatory for this position, but is an asset that will be recognized in the time commitment of this position. The successful candidate will maintain a comprehensive and long-range system-wide view of the University’s strategic plan as it pertains to obstetric services.


Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution, completion of accredited OB/GYN residency and fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine are required.

  • Board certified in OB/GYN and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

  • A minimum of five years of experience after completion of final Fellowship training.

  • Academic achievement sufficient to meet the University of Maryland School of Medicine criteria for appointment at the associate professor or professor level.

  • Demonstrated interest and expertise in Patient Safety and healthcare quality measures.

  • Strong commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented philosophy with hospital administration and colleagues in other specialties.

  • A reputation for building a clinically strong program.

  • An absolute commitment to improving quality of care through multidisciplinary inquiry and innovation.
